About the institute
The Institute for Transnational Conflict and Crisis Studies (ITCCS) is an independent think tank. We analyse conflicts and crises in their global context so that decisions about them rest on verified evidence.
Why “transnational”
Most contemporary crises have roots and consequences that cannot be contained within a single state. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence and intensifying global competition have tied local events to processes unfolding far beyond them. Understanding a conflict therefore means seeing how local conditions and the global context combine within it.
To do this, we bring together researchers from different disciplines and countries in teams that work on specific conflicts and crises.
Structure
The institute was founded in 2026 in Helsinki, Finland, as a non-profit association. It operates as a network of loosely affiliated branches in different countries.
The Ukrainian branch is the first in this network. Its task is to study Ukrainian society at war and to bring the Ukrainian experience into international academic and public debate through publications, joint research and open data.
How we work
- Our own data. We design surveys, develop questionnaires and analyse the results ourselves. Fieldwork is carried out by established survey agencies.
- Transparent methods. Alongside the results we publish the survey mode, sample size, margin of error and question wording.
- Careful conclusions. We distinguish statistically significant changes from ordinary fluctuation and do not present associations as causal.
- Respondent protection. Survey results are published only in aggregate, and respondents' contact details are never shared with clients.
